About Bath Spa University

Bath Spa University is one of the leading universities in England; its emphasis is on teaching and quality, which gives top priority to its students and makes the university different and exclusive from others. The university is situated around Bath, England. In the beginning, the college was called Bath College of Higher Education and in 2005, it was transformed into a full-fledged postgraduate university and was named Bath Spa University. The university has a unique history; in 1851, the university organized an exhibition, which was a huge success in the educational world. After the success of the Great Exhibition, the university was named Bath School of Art in 1852.

In 1975, Bath College of Higher Education was formed; in 1947, Bath School of Arts took Newton Park Campus on lease and then Bath College of Education and Newton Park College of Education merged and were renamed Bath School of Higher Education. Initially the college did not have the authority to award degrees to its students, but in 1992, this authority was provided for the college. In 1999, the college was named Bath Spa University College. The college was rewarded the university status in March 2005 and then eventually in August 2005, the college acquired the name Bath Spa University.

The university has various campuses for different courses and departments. The Newton Park Campus is situated near the town of Newton Saint Leo, which is on the west side of Bath. This is one of the largest universities among the three campuses. All the major courses are available here except a few PGCE courses and Art and Design courses. All accommodation facilities for students are situated here because the campus is very huge. There are total eight halls in the campus, including Church and Temple. The Sion Hill campus is located in the district. This campus comprises one Library, students union office, stationery and material shop, workshops and studios. The Culverhay is the third and smallest campus of the university. It is located in the southern area of Bath. In this campus, all the post graduation courses are available and certification courses are also taught here. This campus offers all the education-related courses, such as Music, Geography, English, History, Religious Education and Mathematics.

The university has developed a new campus in Corsham Court. This campus is home for all the Art and Design courses because in the Second World War, most of the parts of Bath School of Art and Design were destroyed.

The college is connected to all major stations so it is very easy to reach the university. Regular trains are available to the Bath Spa Station and from the station, several buses run to almost every campus. The university is still in the process of development and new projects are in coming up. The university has six schools of study, such as School of Humanity and Cultural Industries, School of Music and Performing Arts, School of Education, School of Science and Society Management, School of Art and Design, and Graduate School for Higher Studies.

The courses available in the university are arts and design, education courses, initial teaching courses, undergraduate and post graduate courses, research degrees and Early Years Professional Status.
